ROOM:

TW - The film is incredible, but also a little (very) heartbreaking.

The synopsis is available to search online.

Things it brought up for me:

💬 try everything you want. You may be missing things you enjoy, don’t restrict yourself.

💬 parental love and protection is a powerful thing.

💬 As parents we don’t always know what is best, but it’s where we aim for usually.

💬 mental health is so important, even if that means taking time away from our environment.

💬 psychological safety is a massive thing and is something I ensure for myself - it’s taken a while to get comfortable with this.

💬 when you are mentally unwell, emotions like anger can be a mixture of release but also massive sadness.

💬 feeling trapped in your own head and environment can be incredibly debilitating.

💬 children see everything, they may not understand, they may not let you know, but they see everything.

💬 the trauma of the parents will always impact the child no matter how hard you try to separate and put up barriers.

I started writing this last night after watching it and then fell asleep, this morning I really looked at it differently and more in depth.

We all have trauma, we all have experiences, we all have coping strategies, and we all have both physical and mental health.

In light of it being mental health week shortly, every day we work on our mental health is a massive win.

Don’t forget to give yourself so time and space for yours right now.

p.s

This picture of me, I took when I was impacted by my depression. I started taking photos when I was in deep to see if I ‘looked’ any different to myself and therefore others.

Even self care couldn’t help me at that moment. But that picture reminds me of how I felt in that moment. I look back at it and also remind myself how far I have come on my own journey.
